performance - How to slow down WWW on nameserver level? -

for scientific purposes know how slow down www server on dns level.

is possible via ttl setting ?

thank ralph

it should not possible slow down speed of website (http) solely modifying dns response.

however, slow down initial page load time via dns modifying dns server take abnormally long time before returning dns results. problem is, effect initial load of website, after that, web browsers, computers, , isps cache results.

.

the ttl spoke of effects how long dns result should cached for, has minimal effect on speed of website. being said, theoretically possible set dns ttl value close 0, requiring client have re-lookup ip via dns every page load. make every new page website load slowly.

however, problem attack in real world, venders , isps don't follow rules exactly. there numerous isps , consumer devices don't honor low ttl values in dns replies, , cache dns result decent period of time regardless of dns server asked cached for.

.

so experience in lowering ttl low values while transferring services new ips, , seeing ridiculously long caching time regardless, while such attack such may work, depend hugely on dns server each victim using, , in cases make close no delay after initial page load.
